Gray Matter - Inventing Radlok
Radlok, the trolley/cart retention system is Gray Matter’s most successful invention, selling over 3 million in five continents. We have a lot of information on Radlok so this page has its own menu located under the logo, on the right.
There is an introduction to Radlok on this page, giving you and overview of how the retention works. Further, more indepth information can be found in the Radlok download library. To purchase Radlok and the full system, contact us.
Introducing Radlok
Radlok is a device that is fitted alongside the cart’s wheel and ingeniously puts a brake on the ground at a point determined by the cart owner. This may be indoors at the exit of the store or at the final exit of the store car park. By stopping the trolley from leaving the site the Radlok significantly cuts trolley thefts without affecting those customers who wish to use the cart legitimately.
- Radlok is unobtrusive to the legitimate trolley user, allowing free use of the trolley/cart in the store and car park
- Two Radlok untis are fitted diagonally on opposite sides and are compatible with most trolley castors. This does not affect the nesting or steering of the trolleys/carts.
- When activated, a brake drops to the ground rendering the trolley/cart immobile. The Radlok can be reset easily using the special keys supplied.

How it works
Radlok contains no electronics or active devices, it is purely mechanical. A special paving slab is laid at the point where the owner wants all trolleys/carts to be stopped. The Radlok will be triggered when the castor it is fitted to, moves over this paving.
The triggered Radlok will cause the brake to move round and make contact with the ground. This stops the castor from moving and makes the trolley/cart impossible/very hard to move.
